Think about the possibilities...
For projects that may only require a few students...
You could divide your class into several small groups, have each group
complete the project and then invite the organization to your class for
their final presentations.
Would this be a good in-course honors project?
Do you know of a few students looking for internships?
If something sounds interesting to you, give the organization a call and
discuss the possibilities.
I'm Interested in a Project Idea/Need...Now What?
Interested parties should contact one another to discuss the project in
more detail and ultimately decide on whether or not to pursue the project.
If both parties agree to pursue the project, one of the parties should
notify the Community-Engaged Classrooms Program Coordinator to
have the project posting removed.

How It Works
The Community-Engaged Classrooms Program seeks to encourage and support intentional
curricular activities that engage students in projects that address human
and community needs. The Program assists Illinois State faculty and community
agencies/organizations with identifying potential projects and establishing
partnerships with one another.
- These experiential education projects are situated by faculty members
within a semester-long course(s), and therefore are different from one-time
volunteer/community service experiences. (Examples of these types of
projects are available on the American
Democracy Project web site)
- The service activities are connected to the course learning
objectives and faculty assist students with understanding
this connection.
- Faculty will provide opportunities for students to reflect on their
experiences and learn from one another.
The Process:
- A community organization and/or faculty member posts a project/idea/need
using the brief online
form.
- The submitted project information will be reviewed by the Community-Engaged Classrooms
Program Coordinator.
If there are questions the Coordinator will contact the organization
or faculty member for clarification.
- Information about the project will be posted to the Community-Engaged Classrooms
Program web site for agencies and faculty to review.
- Interested parties will contact one another to discuss the project
in more detail and ultimately decide on whether or not to pursue the
project together.
**Please be aware that we can not guarantee when or if a ‘match’ will
be made.**
- If both parties decide to pursue the project, one of the parties will
notify the Community-Engaged Classrooms Program Coordinator and the project
posting will be removed.
